About the trumpet

Is the trumpet right for my child?

What it is like to learn

Bright, bold and compact. The trumpet is a popular starting point and the sound is exciting from early on.

Who it suits

It builds lip strength over time, so regular short practice works better than long occasional sessions. Outgoing children often enjoy it.

How it works

The trumpet is a brass instrument. The player buzzes their lips into a cup shaped mouthpiece and changes notes with three valves.

Not sure yet? In our Foundation Programme your child tries a few instruments first, and we recommend the best fit. Our guide Which band instrument should my child learn? compares them all.

How your child learns at BAS

Trumpet lessons for every stage

New to the trumpet

Start with the BAS Foundation Programme, for children aged 7 and above with no band experience. Your child tries a few instruments, we recommend the best fit, and lessons begin with Ms Dorean Tan. Saturdays, 10 to 11.30am, 20 sessions per semester.

Already plays the trumpet

Join the BAS Ensembles. Students are placed by playing ability in the Junior or Senior Ensemble and rehearse on Saturdays with our music directors, with more music to play and more chances to perform.

One to one coaching

Individual Coaching matches your child with a tutor from the BAS network or a VENTUS musician. It can be taken alongside the ensembles, or on its own. Preparing for an audition? See DSA Preparation.

Location
BAS studio, 261 Waterloo Centre, #02-10, Singapore 180261. Near Bras Basah and Bugis MRT stations.
Fees
